This course mainly studies the law of interaction between organisms and environment from three levels: individual, population and community. The main teaching types and characteristics of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem; ecological factors on individual organisms and biological adaptation; the effects of environmental factors on population distribution and quantity, dynamic pattern and growth characteristics of interspecific interaction;; community diversity and community succession; ecological system in primary production, energy flow and material circulation.
Physiological ecology is a cross discipline between physiology and ecology, and studies the physiological mechanism of biological adaptation to environment.
In 1930s, experimental ecology was formed on the basis of the development of wild ecology, and comparative physiology was combined with natural history studies to form a physiological ecology. It mainly studies the temperature humidity and other climatic factors on plant growth and development, reproduction and survival effect; influence on Photosynthesis and water metabolism, nutritional and physiological effects; regulation, osmotic regulation of the animal's body temperature, stress and environmental conditions or in extreme, animal and plant physiological adaptation, adaptation bioenergetics behavior, and etc.. The so-called individual ecology in the past, the research content and physiological ecology is roughly. From the individual level of biological adaptation mechanism is the foundation of ecology. Study on population, community and ecosystem function, are dependent on the study of living organisms. Physiological ecology in modern times, on the one hand to molecular ecology, chemical ecology, bio chemical ecology, bio physical ecology etc. the microcosmic direction; on the other hand, also strengthened the research point of population ecology, community ecology.
Population ecology is the study of population ecology, that is, from a certain sense to a species of the regional population as the object of study. Population ecology is the branch of ecology that takes population as the research object in individual, population and community. But in the past it was only emphasized that it was the science of the number of individual animals, so the emphasis was placed on the records of the number of habitats and their changes and the reasons for the change. Animal sociology, for example, clearly belongs to the range of population ecology, but is generally separated. Study on individual number change mechanism, especially in the experimental population is the 2 and 3 species: such as a system, in the content they belong to the community ecology, but the practice is to be included in population ecology.
Urban ecology is an interdisciplinary subject of ecology and urbanism. It covers many elements of natural science and social science. It is a science to study the relationship between human activities and urban environment. In theory, focuses on the occurrence and development of the city ecosystem dynamics, combination and distribution, relationship between structure and function, the mechanism of regulation and control; in the application to use the principle of ecology evaluation, planning, construction and management of the city, from the optimization of city ecological system structure, control system, and improve the material transformation the energy utilization efficiency and improve the quality of the environment and other aspects to achieve the function of reasonable structure, efficient and harmonious relationship, to enhance the vitality of the city.
Agro-ecology is a branch of ecology applied in agriculture. It is set up as a basic course of specialty because of the increasing agricultural resources and ecological problems which accompany with the development of agricultural productivity. Theory of ecology is the basic theory of agro-ecology. The content of the course mainly includes the structure and function of agro-ecosystem, agro-ecosystem regulation and optimization, utilization and protection of agricultural resources, the theory and practice of ecological agriculture in China etc. By studying this course, students can learn the basic conception, function, connection and adjusting mechanism of agro-ecosystem. They can also learn the basic theory of agro-ecology, the development of substitutive agriculture abroad and the theory and practice of ecological agriculture in China. The students will build up ecological ideas and agricultural production ideas which combine ecology and economics, thus they can organize and manage agricultural production macroscopically, systemically and holistically. The total teaching time is 24 hours.
Microbiology is an introductory course dealing with bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microorganisms. The contents will cover microbial morphology, reproduction, nutrition, growth, metabolism, genetics, mutation, pathogenicity, immune response, and practical application in industry and agriculture.
"General Biology is an introduction to biodiversity and the process of biological evolution, including the knowledge hierarchies: taxonomy, animal diversity, plant diversity, and evolution theories. With the basic groups of organisms and their distributions as the focuses, the evolution of life as the main line throughout, the course lets students understand the whole situation of biological world and evolutionary rules.

Biochemistry describes the chemical processes and mechanisms shared by all living organisms. The properties of amino acids; the structure and function of proteins, nucleic acids, lipids and carbohydrates; the kinetics and catalytic mechanisms of enzymes; the functions of vitamin, co-enzyme and hormone; transmembrane transportation; glycolysis; citric acid cycle; TCA cycle; electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation; glycogen metabolism; fat acids metabolism and amino acids metabolism are included in this course.
